This was news to me: it takes less than two hours to get to York from London King’s Cross.

So it’s the perfect place for a mid-week break.

We arrived in York just in time for quick lunch.

In The (converted) Grand Assembly Rooms!

We explored the town on a busy Tuesday afternoon.

And worked our way through The Shambles.

Down crooked quirky lanes heaving with history…

Hello! Happily wearing my new Seasalt Long Seafolly Jacket. Seriously comfy, organic cotton – I literally lived in this jacket in York (more pics on Friday!).

And we returned to our hotel for the evening.

Just as the sun made an appearance!

At least the view from our room out onto the quiet square was draped in evening light.

After dinner in the restaurant it was back upstairs to bed.
