Favourite Things Of The Month

Bill Bryson One Summer 1927 review

This month has kindled some new favourite things.

I have particularly enjoyed reading some non-fiction books this month. ‘One Summer: America 1927’ by Bill Bryson is fantastic. A very readable yet in-depth study on news and concerns from the months of May – September in 1927. Topics include Charles Lindbergh and the race to be the first to fly to America from Europe, and vice versa; truly horrific crime stories that gripped headlines of the emerging ‘tabloid’ newspaper; Henry Ford’s unique business design; America under Presidents Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover; the character of baseball player Babe Ruth. I cannot think of anyone who wouldn’t enjoy this book. You will be hooked from the beginning.

The Running Hare: The Secret Life of Farmland by John Lewis – Stemple has been on my reading list for a while. It is a very informative read on nature and the difficulties faced by those whose livelihood depends on it. A brilliant book.

Aveeno Moisturising Cream Talking of nature, I’ve always loved the Aveeno range and this is a very effective cream full of oaty ingredients for hands, legs, knees, elbows… you get the gist.

Emma Bridgewater Pencils in a Box You know I love to fill my desk with sweet things. Fun pencils in a box help me feel tidier and I always know where to find a pencil for when I go to sketch in…
