For me, beauty is at its best when it’s simple and straightforward… particularly when travelling. An indolent makeup bag, if you will. These are the products that I took away with me when I went to Cambridge. Compact, light, mini products with no big bulky breakable bottles and no brushes – and bearing in mind I had a formal family wedding to attend – I covered all makeup bases. Here goes!
Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish £6 (travel) Why break my cleansing regime just because I’m going away? Take the best cleanser in miniature form and a flannel (or two) for clean and clear skin on your travels. Also doubles as a very effective makeup remover.
Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic mini £6 (travel) I love this toner for the Summer months as it makes my skin feel nice and cool and fresh.
Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief (this is a free sample I got with purchase – although I always wear this moisturiser!) A light gel-cream which is perfect for dehydrated and sensitive skin like mine.
Dior Diorskin Nude BB Creme £30 I always go back to this foundation and it goes over the Moisture Surge cream perfectly. I actually don’t think I’d need a mirror to apply this BB cream as it’s foolproof with great light coverage for Summer. I didn’t even need to pack a separate powder as it’s a cream-to-powder formulation. And it comes in a tube so it’s ideal for carrying around.
Clinique Airbrush Concealer £19 Everything you need from a concealer – for on the spot touch ups and hiding dark circles. Done.
Max Factor Miracle Touch Creamy Blusher in Soft Pink £6.99 This small pot of blush is fantastic and very quick to apply with your fingers for a natural and healthy glow.
Clinique Chubby Stick in Mighty Mimosa £17 Yes – it’s still my favourite pink lipstick. Moisturising and long lasting colour.
Clinique All About Shadow in Daybreak £16 A little bit of this champagne-colour eye shadow is enough for the daytime. Build it up a bit for the evening for super-dazzling eyes!
Clinique Aromatics in White perfume (a free sample with purchase) A beautifully fresh and light scent – a couple of spritzes makes for the perfect refreshment on a hot sticky day.
Clinique Kohl Shaper for Eyes £15 A long lasting true-black eyeliner for sensitive eyes.
Boots No7 Extreme Length Waterproof Mascara £12.50 Length and curl for flake-free lashes that stays put even in extreme heat.
Imagine a suitcase in makeup:
a dot of liner
to make the wheels pop
and leave a trailing graphite line
so you can always find your way back.
A handle could handle
a puff of powder
to power march
through pickling crowds.
