I think the RHS Chelsea Flower Show press day is one of my favourite days of the year.
We were lucky with the sunshine today!
It’s always impossible to choose a favourite, but this one comes close: The New West End Garden.
A communal garden for year-round use, designed as an interpretation of gardens and architecture of a London square.
It was such a clever garden: there was a sheltered area for privacy from surrounding buildings, a water feature to drown out the sound of traffic.
And, most impressively, a sprung floor that fuels the energy for the lighting and spinning fan over the garden.
Imagine if they rolled out that technology onto British high streets? That way, the energy from every footstep could be used to fuel streetlights!
The M&G garden ^ is always wonderful: a haze of textures and colours. Absolutely lovely.
I love the LG Eco-City garden. At first sight, it’s a beautiful yellow garden using cottage garden flowers. Lots of Lupins and Foxgloves…
And then you learn that it’s a very high-tech garden: there are clear solar panels on top of the building (who knew there was such a thing? A solar panel that looks like a roof-window – genius!) and the garden combats air-pollution.
The Lemon Tree Garden highlights the importance of gardens to displaced people trying to rebuild their lives around the globe.
Seeking shelter from the beating sun, we ventured inside…
And bumped into a familiar face!
Roses are the best.
With the roar of Main Avenue in my ears, it was back outside for some more exploring!
I’ll post some more pics tomorrow!
