Three books that have coloured my May. In brief:
Marcel Proust: In Search of Lost Time I admit, when I ordered a copy of Proust’s In Search Of Lost Time, I didn’t quite envisage receiving something like this…
It said it was an illustrated edition so I thought it would have a few pictures in the middle or illustrations nestled into the text.
But no! It’s more like a comic book. With Proust. I’ve been really enjoying it, I’d highly recommend the book to anyone about to make their first foray into the heady world of Proust.
Henry Green Caught, Back, Concluding I’d forgotten how much I love Henry Green having briefly read some of his work at university, so when Vintage publishing offered me ‘Caught, Back, Concluding’ I jumped at the chance to read the collection. This is the first time that ‘Caught’ has been published in its original form, as it was censored when it was first published. Reading Green makes me happy to be a slow reader. Absolutely wonderful. I’m happily still reading.
Guy de Maupassant A Day in the Country and Other Stories You are probably familiar with Maupassant’s ‘The Necklace’ (if not, click here to read it online). Find your new favourite short story in this collection. Although I actually can’t pick a favourite.
I very much enjoyed Loving by Henry Green at uni, so I really must read more of his work! I’m also tempted by the graphic novel of Proust – I hear about this when it came out and thought it was such a good idea.
I couldn’t possibly do a Henry Green book justice in a review on here as he is so wonderful, so had to keep it brief! I love the illustrated Proust, yes it’s such a good idea. Highly recommend!
