The Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge

Cambridge

Even on a very gloomy day, Cambridge is glorious.

After a big breakfast overlooking the river, and with a few hours left of our long weekend, we decided to visit the world-famous Fitzwilliam Museum.

The buildings take on such a dark and moody quality in this light. It looks as though I’ve done some serious photo-shopping, but I haven’t.

We walked down a couple of quiet backstreets (I think all university cities are usually completely deserted on Sunday mornings… can’t think why!)

And we arrived at The Fitzwilliam Museum.

We saw the incredible ‘Ruskin’s Turners’ exhibition (which is on until 4th October – see it if you can) and then we meandered through the museum – impossible to see in its entirety in one morning.

Obviously I was very drawn to the blue and cream china…

And the collection of dainty wine glasses dating back to the mid eighteenth century…
