Preppy Fashion

When I open my wardrobe I can feel a bit lost.

It’s organised into sections and subsections, but sometimes that’s not enough. Short of installing actual sartorial signposts (does & Other Stories have a homeware section?) I’m left gripped by indecision and amused by the narrative my fashion choices chronicle.

I spy my tweed cap from that fun phase years ago when I was all over Barbra Streisand’s costume collection from ‘What’s Up, Doc?’. Then there’s the black biker jacket with studded shoulder pads from when I wanted to share in Sandy’s transformation in Grease. And I’m still agnostic over my brown cape with the very impressive wingspan…

However, there is one trend that prevails throughout my various garments: the Preppy look. It’s written across my wardrobe like the centre of a stick of rock. I love the feel of soft cashmere cardigans against crisp white shirts or chic polka dot Peter Pan collared shirts, and the tactility of the grooves of corduroy. I’m thrilled that in recent years so many accessories have caught on to my Preppy-chic needs: brogues, satchels, quirky gloves and amazing tights have filled the shops (and consequently my closet!).

Here’s how to wear the Preppy look:
